The step case hermetique chrono…
This large 38mm vintage steel chronograph is in stunning condition with the original factory lines and even the purple lacquer on the caseback. These watches are known as ‘step case’, because of the shape of the case; how it flows between the case edge and the crystal, with a noticeable ridge or step. The movement and crystal are actually fitted to the caseback, in one unit that sits within the mid-case.
These were known as “hermetique” cases. The silvery cream vertical-brushed dial is incredible, with black Arabic hours, blue tachymeter scale and red telemeter scale. The blue steeled hands are in perfect original condition.
This watch has only been worn very lightly over the past 80 years and is probably the best condition watch from that era that we have ever seen. The watch has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker and is fitted with the pictured Bulang and Sons leather strap.
